Congratulations go out to Henry A., who won the Illinois Junior Division for violin at the MTNA conference this past weekend! He performed the Sarasate Zigunerweisen, the Allegro con brio of Beethoven Violin Sonata No. 1, and Telemann Fantasie No. 9. We are so proud of you Henry!

When asked about his experience, this is what Henry had to say: “I had lots of fun playing for a different group of audience in Illinois. I was not really thinking that I was in a competition, so the experience was quite rewarding.”

Henry studies with Stacia Spencer and is accompanied by pianist Maya Galperin.

Testimonials

"Thank you Northwestern's Music Academy String Program for posting your recitals and program. As a string educator in the Chicagoland area, I use this as a great resource for learning new repertoire and seeking out arrangers. I also share the videos with my students so that they can listen to quality performances and excellent string playing. Looking forward to more wonderful performances."
Daniella Valdez, Director of String Ensembles with The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras and Director of Orchestras at Maine West High School, Des Plaines, IL.

"If you’re looking for a nurturing, caring, supportive, respectful, and fun environment, NU String Academy is the right place for you ... My kid has grown tremendously as a musician since we switched to NU."

"The Music Academy is great. We have had the pleasure of working with two teachers who are enthusiastic, passionate and great mentors."

"An out-of-state move forced us to leave Northwestern's Music Academy, and since that time we have struggled to find a program that encompasses the same holistic approach to musicianship and music community. We realize now what a unique program and exceptional instructors the Academy has, and how valuable our time there, even years later, has turned out to be. If you have an occasion to participate in the Music Academy, expect it to be a formative, challenging, and priceless opportunity for you and your growing musician."
